 Enthroning the Victory

Democratic party’s sweeping win in the 2026 midterm elections was bigger than expected. It is a victory, considering the deep political division and acrimonious atmosphere introduced to American politics by the Republican party since the 1990s. It appears that the incompetence, misuse and fleecing of national treasures by the Trump administration catapulted to power by the so-called “Maga” movement became so unbearable that even some Republicans saw the need for change. This was unexpected from the people who knowingly brought the incompetency to power or who naively did not foresee its incompetency.

Yes, there is a dire need for change, but is it reachable?

Democrats now have solid control in both chambers of the Legislative branch. Courts (this word is deliberately used instead of judiciary or judicial branch from which to exclude the ‘Trumpicized’ Supreme Court) demonstrated that they adhere to the rule of law. Will they be effective in delivering the much needed and expected change back to normalcy, in the presence of an executive branch that defies legislative branch, court orders, and rule of law (including the Constitution) and a Supreme Court that upholds defiant executive branch actions?

Firstly, it is already a monumental task to clean up the indelible mess in domestic affairs and resurrect a demolished leadership standing in international affairs. Being monumental, this task could be achieved barely within two years. Such can only be a miracle in the presence of an intransigent Executive branch. Consequently, voters that proved their impatience with non-delivering administrations could oust the Democrats at the end of this term.

Second, it can be plainly foreseen that Trump, in his remaining two years, is going to erect all possible obstacles to a success by Democrats.

Third, can a Democratic party that respects the rule of law, the public opinion, and the riddled political system have the audacity to take drastic political actions to defend the cause for the good of the people? With all these limitations, they proved they could not see and then stop the success of the Maga movement, for the sake of democratic principles.

In short, Democrats, beware of the monumental obstacle to the monumental task (to use the word monument that became presidential daily parlance). Victory won in the battlefield is not always enthroned in the capital without a “coup de grace”.
